Andrew McCutchen played for the Pirates since his debut in 2009 until he was traded to the Giants in January. He told reporters that his first return to Pittsburgh might be emotional, but that he was going to “soak it in and appreciate it.”
McCutchen, on the emotions he might feel tonight: “If I cry, I cry. Big whoop. You’re supposed to. If I don’t, I don’t. I want to just soak it in and appreciate it and appreciate the people and the fans around me and all that.”

The outfielder did just that on Friday. The 2013 NL MVP tipped his helmet to the Pirates fans while they showed him love with a standing ovation as he was introduced for his first at-bat.
The Pirates also showed their appreciation for McCutchen in other ways like banners and videos. This is as good as it gets. There was so much love at PNC Park.
Props to the Pirates for showing appreciation for the 31-year-old. Pro sports is a business and trades happen, but it’s always nice to see moments like this.
